Mobility / Wheelchair Support

The accessible shuttle buggy operates from the main ticket office and takes you to and from the main entrance to the house and gardens.

PMVs can be booked for use around the garden.

A countryside tramper is available to hire for use on the estate. Countryside mobility membership fees apply.

We recommend booking all vehicles in advance by emailing lanhydrock@nationaltrust.org.uk or call 01208 265950.

There is level access, or alternative provision to the house and courtyard, with intercom buttons for those who cannot manage the door unaided. Full details of access are in the Accessibility Guide.

Seating
• There is one bench between the cycle hire / cafe and the ticket office and this is a long walk.
• There are  picnic benches available at main car park but these are located on quite long grass where there is some gradient and soft surface to reach them
• There are limited seats and benches throughout the gardens and the walk from the ticket office to the main house and gardens has no seating. There is a downhill gradient from the ticket office to the house and gardens.

Update: 2nd March 2026, The lift in the mansion is currently out of service due to some mechanical issues. Level access is still available on the ground floor. No ticket price reduction is offered for wheelchair users purchasing tickets to the house and gardens but carers do get in free.

There are seats located along the house route for visitors to rest on.

Powered wheelchairs can be used in the house. Visitors in vehicles that are not suitable for the house will need to transfer to a manual wheelchair. We have three companion wheelchairs available on site which are are designed for a family member or carer. Please speak to a member of the team for more information.
Due to fire regulations, a maximum of six wheelchair users are allowed in the house at any one time.

There are accessible playground features and opportunities for inclusive play

Vision Impairment Support

Photo albums and tactile route guides, large print, braille and sensory guides are currently not available. (April 2021)

Light levels in the house are kept low to maintain the atmosphere and protect the collection.

Dogs are allowed in the park, but assistance dogs only in the house, garden and shop.

There are plenty of dog-friendly walks on the estate.

There are water bowls by the Park Café, visitor reception and in the courtyard next to the house.

Hearing Impairment Support

There is Hearing Assistive Technology available at the ticket office.

For those wishing to visit at quieter times, the house is usually quieter later in the afternoon and outside of school holidays.

Autism support

There is a dedicated quiet room (located on the first floor near the Nursery) for visitor use.

Learning Support

Signage is clear with use of images and symbols. Many exhibits have simple, clear labelling and there are some iPad displays around the house.
