    Stithians Lake, located in the heart of Cornwall's iconic mining landscape, is a striking setting for your next family adventure.

    Activities
    Surrounded by farmland and moorland, Stithians is the largest inland water in West Cornwall, with something for everyone to enjoy. Get out on the water and take part in a variety of activities including stand up paddleboarding, kayaking, canoeing, sailing, windsurfing and even trout fishing. You can hire our watersports equipment, launch your own or learn something new with one of our qualified instructors.

    Enjoy the uninterrupted views across the lake and explore Stithians on foot. There's a 5 mile circular route through meadows, wet woodland and heathland and a great walk from the café to the imposing Stithians Dam. Don't forget the camera - the countryside is humming with wildlife; why not see what you can spot from one of the three bird hides?

    Stithians Lake aims to provide social inclusion and accessibility for all and to encourage more people to engage with the outdoors and have fun, irrespective of ability, age and background.

     

    Self-launch is charged per craft per day, for canoes, kayaks dinghies, SUPs, and windsurfing, subject to checks and insurance. Membership options are available for those who would like to use this regularly.

    Stithians campsite

    Enjoy an outdoor camping adventure with the whole family in Cornwall. Stithians provides a superb Cornish camping holiday with pitches set adjacent to the lake. Let your children run and play freely, there’s plenty of large and open spaces for games and picnics. Venture around the site on our nature trail by bike or foot, use our hide to spot birds, try fly-fishing to catch lunch or just relax and enjoy the superb views.

    35 pitches are available for tents, and there are a few luxury bell tents, with adjacent outdoor cooking areas (double beds & 2 camp beds provided, no dogs)

     

    Stithians is a popular trout fishery. For more information, see the Trout fishing information page, or the page for Stithians. Most of the waters benefit from facilities designed for disabled or wheelchair anglers, either by platforms or Wheelyboats. Tuition is available.

    Parking

    There are car parks at the top and bottom of the lake. Parking is £2 for 2 hours or £4 all day. Friends of South West Lakes receive a free parking pass for all of 5 of their car parks.

    Mobility / Wheelchair Support

    Enjoy a wide range of inclusive facilities. Explore the lake on a Wheelyboat, take part in a Sailability session or explore our specially designed nature paths which are suitable for pushchairs and wheelchairs. It is not possible to take a wheelchair around the entire lake, as there are steps at both ends of the dam section, and  other parts of the path are too narrow.

     

    Wheelyboats

    We work with the Wheelyboat Trust to provide boats that provide accessibility for less able visitors and ensure that wheelchair users can enjoy independent access onto the water.

    Our wheelchair friendly boats allow visitors to the lake to benefit directly from a variety of inclusive activities such as pleasure boating, trout and coarse fishing, bird and nature watching.

    You will need to have prior training before being able to drive a wheelyboat, training is of no additional cost, you will only be required to pay for hire of the boat.

     

    RYA Sailability 
    Sailing is an inclusive watersport suitable for all to participate in.

    Stithians Lake is a recognised RYA Sailability centre. Please contact us if you would like more information.

    Sailability has allowed the sport to become accessible for all ages and levels of disability. The RYA Sailability sessions provide freedom and independence for all participants within a social and relaxed atmosphere.

    Sessions allow people to gain access to the water and maintain healthy lifestyles within a fun and friendly environment. Come along and participate in this great sport. Sailing allows able and less-able sailors to participate on equal merit.

    Stithians Lake offers sessions for people with disabilities on Sundays from 15 May to 2 October, 11.30am - 12.30pm. Please contact the centre for further details.

    Dogs are welcome at the lakes but must be kept on a lead and out of the water.
