Mobility / Wheelchair Support

There is ramped access from the street up to the church doors. There is an accessible entrance with ramped access and a wide doorway in addition to the main entrance. The door is not power assisted but is well signposted and easy to open. There is plenty of space throughout the church and good ramped and level access to most areas of the church. There is  good access to to the refreshment and toilet facilities. Access routes can be narrower and very crowded during performances. The seating is cushioned and of a good height with backrests, but there are no arm rests on chairs generally. Space can be made for wheelchair users during performances but this can vary depending on the event organiser.

Vision Impairment Support

There is ramped access from the street up to the church doors. There is. There is step free access to the church. Signage is quite small but you can see a good contrast symbol for the disabled access doorway. The church is dark in places inside due to its historic nature and as a place of worship. There is an accessible toilet facility in the church. During performances when the church is very busy the noise levels can make it difficult to hear conversation. Also more chairs and items are moved and added in the main church area so be aware that access layouts may change from previous visits.

The church is a very quiet place to visit during the day when there are no services or events being held. The nature of the church is that the acoustics do fill the space during events and performances which may make it difficult for those using some kinds of hearing assistive technology. The church is a very quiet and peaceful place to visit when there are no events or services taking place and a good place to sit quietly.  The hand dryer in the accessible toilet is quite loud.

There is a clear disabled symbol on the accessible doorway but generally signs are not provided with symbols, images or easy read versions. There is clear information on the website about visiting the church and also event information that can be accessed by most text to speech software applications. There is also good information on the website about the church safeguarding policy and contact information should you require information. The church hosts lots of inclusive events for the local community.
