    Detailed description

    Newlyn Filmhouse is  an accessible cinema in the heart of Newlyn,  near Penzance in Cornwall.  Newlyn Filmhouse is an independent cinema, screening the best in world cinema, live events and arthouse films.

    It is a Curzon Connect Cinema. and supports local film-makers including opening nights for independent films (eg, the BAFTA-winning BAIT hosted Q&A by Mark Kermode).

    Beside the cinema, we have a modern spacious Eathouse restaurant and bar.

    The screening rooms and cafe are accessible for wheelchair users.

     

    Parking

    There are four parking spaces next to the ramp (at the front of the building)

    However, the spaces are not marked or allocated as disabled parking spaces.

     

    Toilet facilities

    Toilet facilities, ONLY on ground floor.

    On ground floor, there are THREE toilets, One Gentelman's toilets, One Ladies toilets, and one disabled toilet.

    Toilets are signposted "M" and "F", and there is one accessible toilet with a "disabled" sign on.

    In the accessible toilet, there is no audio description.

    There are clear instructions in the toilets.

    There are several ways that Newlyn filmhouse is accessible to people with different disabilities. They cover the various disabilities such as wheelchair access, disabled toilets, and awareness of differing disabilities well.

    However, there are certain disabilities in which it does not cater for so well, such as hearing impairments, and vision impaired people.

    Mobility / Wheelchair Support

    There is a ramp for people with disabled access to the building. It is specifically designed for people with disabilities/wheelchair access.

    Toilets are all on ground floor. Easy to access from the foyer.

    Newlyn Filmhouse has lift for people to use.

    Easy access once in building. No trip hazards. Easy access for people in wheelchairs.

    Please note, you have to continously hold button in lift so those with hand-related mobility issues may need help.

     

     

     

    Vision Impairment Support

    There are various ways in which the Newlyn Filmhouse is geared towards people with vision impairments.

    there is a "voice" in the lift that tells you when to open the door of the lift as it processes through the differing floors.

    Vision Impaired people may need to ask for help in accessing 'Screen 2' is as signposts are not clear.

     

    Hearing Impairment Support

    Music playing in foyer, can be distracting for people with hearing impairments

    Currently only foreign language films are subtitled.

     

    Autism support

    There are good audio and written instructions around the Filmhouse.
