    Description

    The Screech Owl Sanctuary was founded in 1990 and is situated in mid Cornwall on the edge of the Goss Moor nature reserve near Indian Queens.

    They hold one of the largest collection of owls in the South West with over 40 different species from all over the world.
    We deal with all rescue and rehabilitation of sick and injured owls in the county and where possible return the owls to their former locations.

    The sanctuary provides education to both adults and children and allow them the opportunity of close encounters with these beautiful and majestic birds.

    The sanctuary has been involved in many conservation projects of endangered species and at certain times of the year visitors can see baby owls.

    On site there are several other animals including Emus, Meerkat, Alpacas, Pygmy Goats and Shetland Ponies.

    We believe that by creating an environment free from barriers and obstacles we can ensure our facilities, services and the environment are fully accessible to all. We want everyone to enjoy their visit to the sanctuary and endeavour to make everything accessible and visible.

    We pride ourselves on the work we do with people with all special needs including those with visual and sensory impairment. Many individuals and groups are given a unique experience and the opportunity to use tactile sensory stimulation by touching and feeling the owls.

    We offer reduced admission price for disabled visitors and an accompanying carer.

    Screech Owl Sanctuary have won the Bronze Award for Access & Inclusivity in the 2016/17 Cornwall Tourism Awards.

     

    Parking

    There is reserved wheelchair parking near the entrance, on site.

    Toilet facilities

    Disabled toilets are fitted with hand rails and raised toilet seat, low level wash basins and there is an alarm cord if assistance is required.

    Mobility / Wheelchair Support

    The site is wheelchair and disabled friendly and provide reserved disabled parking near the entrance, and have a wheelchair on site which can be pre-booked. The site is mostly on a flat level with hard surfaces for wheelchair users, and has double door access into all of the building, with seats and benches all around the site for persons with walking difficulties.

    Vision Impairment Support

    Fully trained special assistance dogs are welcome around the site wearing their identifying jackets, but must not be in the flying area during the displays.
