    Detailed description

    Heartlands, a 19-acre Cornish Mining World Heritage Site, is a family friendly visitor attraction that embodies Cornish culture.

    Nestled just off the A30 at Pool, Redruth, in the mining heart of Cornwall.

    Heartlands is a place where people can learn, explore, play and relax.

    With a mining museum and exhibition, diaspora gardens, a giant adventure playscape for kids, all completely FREE to enjoy.

    Heartlands is a charitable trust, so please support us with a visit to our Café, shop or indoor soft play.

    With swathes of green outdoor space for warm, sunny days and things to do inside when it’s wet, Heartlands is all-year round, all-weather entertainment for anyone and everyone.

    Parking

    The disabled parking bays are along the Fordh an Bal road which is the road on the left before the main car park turn off if you are coming from the A30 and the one immediately after the car park if you are coming from Tesco Pool Extra way.  Follow the road along next to the Great Lawn and discover parking just after where the road bends round the the left.  The parking is on the right hand side next to the wooden building (toilet block).  Disabled parking is free and on a first come first served basis.

     

    Heartlands main car park is right next to the Adventure Playground, near the south of the site, and a short walk away from the main facilities..

    Visitors to Heartlands can redeem the full face value of their parking ticket against any purchase over £5 made in the Red River Café or Wheal Play on the day of their visit. Simply retain the reminder tear-off section and present it at the point of purchase to have the face value deducted from your total.

    Toilet facilities

    Changing Places Toilet
    To ensure Heartlands Cornwall can be enjoyed by everyone, there is a Changing Places toilet next to the disabled car parking spaces.  Installed by Total Hygiene, the UK’s leading supplier of disabled toileting solutions, the room has adequate space in the changing area for the user and up to two carers, a height adjustable adult sized changing bench and tracking/mobile hoist.

     

    Toilet facilities are in the Red River Cafe, and the main site, and at Wheal Play.

    Mobility / Wheelchair Support

    Heartlands is fairly flat, but there are a few gentle slopes here and there, though nothing steep. You can get to any part of the site by pathway.

    We’ve made access within the main complex as easy as possible:

    • Sloping access to buildings wherever there are steps
    • Lift access to the first floor of exhibitions and Chi an Bobel
    • Mobility scooters available for hire

    Please note that due to the sensitive Grade II listed nature of Robinson’s Engine House and restrictions on inserting a lift, there is no access inside for those with mobility issues or wheelchair users. This is the one area in 19 acres where history beat us. Sorry.

    Assistance dogs on a lead are welcome, except in the children's playground.

    There is a hearing loop system within areas of the site. Please ask about this in the café, museum or reception when you arrive.
