Mobility / Wheelchair Support

With all flat flooring and platform lifts, most people can experience the pleasures of this attraction and even appreciate how the building once looked, in the famous Naval Wing. Most mobility aids will fit through the old doorways, even wider than normal wheelchairs.

Guests able to provide evidence of their disability will be entitled to bring a carer free of charge.

Visitors first enter the new building, where they are guided down a staircase to the lowest level of the attraction. A platform lift provides alternative access.

The route through the new ‘Dark Walk’ attraction is level. When visitors reach the original jail building, they are taken up a level, accessed by stairs or a platform lift.

On the other side of the original jail wing, visitors move outside across a ramp, sheltered by a glazed canopy before entering another building.

The next part of the attraction carries on up slopes through the building and out onto a resin-bound gravel ramp. There are zig-zag bends leading up the slope to the former stables area. This area has large stone slabs, but is otherwise level.

The new Gift Shop has level access or ramps.

Please note: the existing building has some narrow, original doorways that are 75cm wide. This should accommodate standard size wheelchairs and conforms to building regulations for existing buildings. However, visitors with wide wheelchairs should contact the attraction before visiting to discuss individual needs.

Vision Impairment Support

For those with visual impairment or sight loss, this is an attraction that would be better taken with a friend, family member or someone who can help guide you around. Spaces can be vast with open areas that cannot be accessed because of the immersive props and technology. Menus, guides, and any write-ups are small-print. It would be worth asking if you are able to access large print alternatives as needed.
