    Description

Maenporth Beach is a quintessential sandy cove on the Cornish south coast on the outskirts of the historic and thriving town of Falmouth.

The gently sloping beach of Maenporth was once a natural harbour but today the shallow inlet is an ideal spot for young swimmers, paddlers, and kayaks, whilst at low tide the rock pools are plenty.

There are excellent family facilities that include a cafe, car parking, public toilets and the opportunity to hire out a range of watersports activities including kayaking, sailing and scuba diving. The shipwreck of the 'Ben Asdale' can be spotted off shore, and is often explored by divers.

There is no RNLI Beach Lifeguard presence on the beach.

Please note: Dogs are welcome on this beach except during July and August (10am to 6pm) when a seasonal dog ban is in place.

    Accessibiliy Guide

A sheltered, family-friendly cove just south of Falmouth, Maenporth has a level promenade and boardwalk leading straight onto the sand, making it one of the easier beaches nearby for wheelchair users. The car park has designated accessible bays close to the beach entrance, and accessible toilets are available. Maenporth Beach Café sits right on the seafront, serving food with outdoor, level seating. A seasonal bus service runs from Falmouth. The calm, sheltered bay is popular for gentle swimming, and the beach wheelchair is available to borrow directly from the café.

    Mobility / Wheelchair Support

    Falmouth Shopmobility Scheme
The Falmouth Shopmobility Scheme is a service for people with mobility issues to aid their experience of Falmouth. The following mobility aids are available: 6 manual wheelchairs, 1 push power assisted wheelchair (non-collapsible), 3 boot scooters (collapsible to go into the car) and 2 mobility walkers.

    Who can use Shopmobility?
Anyone who has difficulty walking – you do not need to be registered disabled. If you have had an accident, surgery, have a temporary injury, are elderly or pregnant and find it difficult to walk long distances, you are more than welcome to hire our vehicles. The weight limit for the scooters and wheelchairs is 18 stone.

    How to use Shopmobility
On your first visit you will need to provide some identification, one of which must include your address. For example, you could bring your pension book, a recent electricity bill or your Council Tax bill. You will need to complete a simple registration form and will be shown how to use the vehicle of your choice. When you are happy that you can use the machine away you go! At the end of your trip simply return the scooter or wheelchair to the Shopmobility office.

    How much will it cost?
It is only £5.00 per day (or part thereof) hire charge for either a scooter or wheelchair, with no annual fee. Cash or card payments accepted. Collection and drop-off in person, no delivery option.
