Mobility / Wheelchair Support

Heather Barn is specially adapted to be wheelchair friendly, and has a National Accessible Scheme M3(a) rating.  There is underfloor heating throughout. Much thought has been given to wider doorways and other factors to make the cottage wheelchair friendly. There is an ensuite wetroom bathroom, and the master bedroom has a dropdown rail in the wardrobe. Full details, including door widths, worktop heights, and more, are on the Accessibility Page for Heather Barn.

Equipment

There is a selection of equipment that may be helpful, including a bed grab rail (to aid pulling yourself into a seated position), “elephant feet” (5″), a shower chair, a hard-armed chair,  a1000w blender (useful for tube feeding), foot stools, anti-allergenic bedding, an induction/hearing loop, and a medication fridge, which can all be provided on request (there is no charge for these). Larger items such as motorised recliner chairs can be hired from the Plymouth Mobility Centre (tel 01752 546222).

Vision Impairment Support

Dogs

Dogs are welcome at Kernock.  Older doggy guests particularly enjoy the lack of stairs and the “under-paw” heating in Heather Barn!  There is a nominal charge for dogs, but Assistance dogs are welcomed free of charge.  Please see the dogs page for more details.

Hearing Impairment Support

Online booking and payment is available.

There is a Geemarc Hearloop LH600 on site – a fully integrated room loop system for hearing aid users with the T switch transmitting the sound directly to your hearing aid. This can be used in any of the cottages. It can connect to the television or your games console (or anything with a 2.5mm, 3.5mm or SCART connection), and also has a microphone for use during conversations and for general use.
