The path from the carpark is tarmacked and well maintained, it's wide and has space for two people to pass or to walk side by side. It leads to the pit itself and to the chapel / visitors centre.
There are no steps in the chapel or the visitors centre.
The door widths are generally wide and easy to get through. The lighting is good and consistent. Mostly natural light from large windows. The acoustics are well managed which helps those who struggle with sensory sensitivity, such as neurodivergent people or those who have dementia. The table and display heights are a good height for wheelchair users. A high percentage of the areas are wheelchair accessible and easy to manoeuvre around for those with walking aids.
There is a clearly signed accessible toilet in the visitors centre which has handrails. It has a clear floor space for turning and transfers from wheelchair to toilet on one side.
The entrance doors to the visitor centre are wide. Once inside there is room to turn into the visitors centre or head straight into the chapel. The staff are exceptionally helpful and intuitive. There is a low level counter in the visitors centre, donation points via QR code.
There is a handrail on both sides for access to the pit if you can manage the steps, but you cannot access the pit itself via wheelchair.
