Sunshine, Donkeys & Cake – What More Could You Want?
Last week, our amazing team of Access Cornwall volunteers enjoyed a heartwarming day out at the beautiful Flicka Donkey Sanctuary, and we couldn’t have asked for a better experience!
The sun was shining, the donkeys were out in full charm mode, and the sanctuary looked absolutely stunning. From start to finish, it was an afternoon filled with smiles, fresh air, and a real sense of community.

Our visit began with a warm welcome from the Flicka team, followed by a fantastic guided tour of the sanctuary. We got to learn more about the important work Flicka does in rescuing and caring for donkeys from all walks of life. The care and dedication from the staff and volunteers was clear to see.
No great day out is complete without something sweet! After the tour, we enjoyed delicious cakes and drinks at the onsite café. There’s something especially lovely about enjoying a treat with friends – and the relaxed atmosphere gave everyone a chance to chat and connect.

We then had some free time to explore more of the sanctuary at our own pace, followed by a picnic together in the sunshine. It was a lovely opportunity to wind down and take in the peaceful surroundings. Some of our team also decided to adopt donkeys at £3 per month!

We’re always looking through the lens of accessibility, and we’re happy to report that Flicka impressed us across the board:
A quick note: Thursdays are generally one of the sanctuary’s busier days, so if you’re someone who prefers quieter times to visit, we recommend planning around that.
A Memorable Day
We truly were blessed with the weather, which made the whole day feel even more special. The grounds were tidy, the donkeys looked healthy and well-cared-for, and the sanctuary had a lovely calm energy that left everyone feeling recharged.
All of our volunteers had a wonderful time and some left with a new donkey sponsorship pack! Im sure we will be back.
Huge thanks to Flicka Donkey Sanctuary for hosting us and for the incredible work they continue to do. We’re grateful for the experience and proud to support inclusive, accessible days out in Cornwall.
