    The Hall for Cornwall is a theatre in the centre of Truro, Cornwall. It is one of the main venues for performances in Cornwall, and here you can enjoy performances of everything from classical to rock concerts, and musicals to drama, including performances from major national and international artists as well as more local, independent productions.

    The new building has been designed and updated improve accessibility and the following measures are now in place.

    • Step free and sloped access on the ground floor from Boscawen Street entrance through to Back Quay, although do be aware that the pavement and access outside is a bit uneven and can be challenging for some individuals with mobility or vision impairment.
    • Automatic entrance doors at both Back Quay and Boscawen entrances.
    • ADI RoomMate (audio description) in two ground floor accessible toilets
    • More accessible WCs, some accessible directly from the auditorium at stalls and circle level.
    • Space to Change facility on ground floor with full adult hoist and changing bench
    • Ambulant toilet cubicle in every public WC.
    • New lifts giving access to the circle both sides and balcony on Back Quay.
    • Technical control room and audio describers room are wheelchair accessible.

     

    Parking

    The nearest Car Park to the theatre is Garras Wharf (long stay), TR1 2TN. where there are 19 disabled parking bays. All Cornwall Council car parks offer free parking after 4pm

    From the car park to our Boscawen Street entrance:

    Access from the car park is via a sub way with a slope up to Lemon Quay which is flat. There is a dropped kerb on to the pavement outside the Pannier Market. Access can be gained through Tinners court (next to the market) which is flat and taking a left on to Princes Street which then becomes Boscawen Street. Please bear in mind that in the evening, Tinners Court will be closed and customers may have to divert along Green Street (by Truro Bus Station) or Lemon Street to get to and from Garras Wharf.

    Accessible Parking Bays

    Truro has limited on street disabled parking bays situated in the city centre, available on

    Lemon Street, Boscawen Street, River Street, King Street, Duke Street

    Blue Badge holders must display their badges clearly. Cornwall Council (CC) own most of the car parks in Truro. Blue Badge holders are allowed to park for free in a CC car park if they have a vehicle that is adapted or they are registered on the CC exemption scheme. Further information can be found on CC website.

    Park & Ride

    For those visiting us during the day there are two park & rides in Truro which are linked to each other, Langarth Park & Tregurra. The Park & Ride sites are open between the hours of 06:30-20:30.

    Langarth (TR4 9AN) – This is on the Western side of Truro and can be found on the A390 at Threemilestone. From the A30, head towards Truro (A390) from the Chiverton Cross Roundabout and turn left (signposted) just before the Threemilestone Roundabout.

    Tregurra (TR1 1RH) – This is on the Eastern side of Truro and can be found near the junction of the A39 and A390 at Union Hill. From the A30, head towards Truro (A39) at the Carland Cross Roundabout and turn left (signposted) just after the Truro Livestock Market. From the A390 head towards Truro and turn right (signposted).

    There are blue badge bays at both park & ride sites.

    Disabled parking rules in Truro - Cornwall Council

    If you display your blue badge correctly and your vehicle isn’t causing an obstruction, you can park in or on:

    Limited parking areas - for an unlimited time
    Yellow lines - for 3 hours or less
    Resident parking zones - for 3 hours or less
    Disabled bays - for an unlimited time unless roadside signs show time limits

    Other nearby car parks include; Lemon Quay Multi Storey Car Park (M&S) and Tabernacle Street. Please note, these are not Cornwall Council car parks.

    Step free access

    The Stalls and Circle levels of the auditorium are accessible from street level on both sides of the building with the use of ramps or the lift. Access to the Balcony level is available via the lift on the Lemon Quay side of the building only.

    Please note, if booking for the left side of the Balcony (Boscawen Street entrance) you will be required to climb stairs to reach your seats.

    The Stalls are fully accessible with the majority of seats on one level. Before the start of a performance you will be able to access both sides of the building using the new Opeway at the back of the auditorium.

    Easy Seat Access

    For our customers who are arriving in a wheelchair but wish to transfer into a seat for the performance, or those who require ease of access into their seat, we now have several rows in the Stalls that feature transfer arms. This means that the arm of the seat will move up and out of the way to allow easier access. Please look out for these seats marked on our seating plan when booking.

    Audio Described

    Visually Impaired customers can use a headset to listen to a full description of what is happening on stage, what costumes look like, what the set looks like, etc. This description is delivered live throughout the show by our Audio Describers. AD devices to be booked via Box Office as first come first served.

    Touch Tour

    Visually Impaired customers can get up close and personal with the costumes, sets and props from the show prior to the Audio Described performance to allow them to have a greater understanding of what is on stage. Tickets for the touch tour are free of charge and available for visually impaired customers booked in for the Audio Described performance only. Limited spaces available.

    Improved Backstage Facilities for Performers

    We are pleased to be able to now offer two dressing rooms with step free access to the stage, both with shower and toilet facilities for performers with access requirements.

    Access Performances

    Many of our shows feature accessible performances including Signed (BSL), Audio Description, Captions, Relaxed performances as well as Touch Tours taking our visually impaired customers up close and personal with the set.

    Signed

    A BSL signer will stand to one side of the stage and sign the entire script for the benefit of our hard of hearing or D/deaf customers. Box Office can advise on best seats for this.

    Captioned

    Screens showing captions of the performance script will be available for hard of hearing or d/Deaf customers.

    Facilities for Hearing Impaired, D/deaf & Visually Impaired Customers

    Induction loops are provided at the Playhouse Bar & Playhouse Cafe counters and at the Stage Door/Husa reception

    The auditorium has a Sennheiser radio frequency system for assisted listening and audio description services, where users can borrow a receiver from us before the show. To ensure we have one ready for you, please contact the Box Office in advance to let them know your requirements.
