Paradise Park Wildlife Sanctuary

Paradise Park is home to over 1200 birds (with over 130 different species on site!) Based in Hayle in Cornwall, this family-run wildlife sanctuary also takes care of a variety of mammals such as Red Pandas, Red Squirrels, Asian Otters, Harvest Mice and farm animals.

Paradise Park specialise in endangered parrots and many other rare species, with on-site fundraising for many conservation projects, local and worldwide.

The sanctuary has level access throughout and is open for visitors every Wednesday to Sunday from 10am - 4pm (last entry at 3pm). The park is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays in the winter, except during School holidays.

Parking

There is a large, tarmac car park on-site. In total there are 13 disabled parking bays situated outside the main entrance.

Paradise Park is also an 8 minute walk from Hayle railway station, or a few hundred yards from the nearest bus stop at St Michael’s Hospital. There is also a taxi drop off point near the shop at the entrance.

Mobility

The vast majority of areas are wheelchair friendly, with level access throughout. There is a recommended walking route which follows a mixture of tarmac paths and light gravel - which should prove no difficulty for various mobility aids.

In the fun farm area, the grass is nicely maintained so this should not be an issue - weather/mud depending.

The gardens have a natural slope, and some areas have a wooden decked area which is also fully ramped and accessible.

Mobility scooters are available to borrow on-site, where all you need to do is ring the shop in advance (01736 751023) so that they can reserve and sanitise it for you.

The entrance to the Park is via double automatic doors into the gift shop. The reception desk area is also at a suitable height in order to exchange conversation with the staff/booking details.

There is a gentle slope via the shop to the café, where seating is available.

Official assistance dogs are welcome, however the following safety measures are mentioned:

• Please keep your dog on a lead and take it quickly away from any aviary where the birds over-react.

• Please be aware we will have birds flying free around the Park at different times of day. Please keep your dog under control at all times.

• We will let you know if a particular species is at a delicate stage in their breeding cycle and ask you to avoid the area.

A water bowl for dogs is available at the entrance gate to the Park.

Feeding the animals in the fun farm (such as goats and sheep) is a great sensory activity. Free animal food is available via the main reception.

Hearing

No hearing loop systems are currently available. Please be aware some birds may be flying free around the Park at different times of the day.

The park can get noisy at times due to the various different bird sounds, so it recommend you bring your own headphones if required.

Toilet Facilities

There is one wheelchair accessible toilet available outside, near the picnic lawn. The other disabled toilet is inside the children's play area called the “JungleBarn”.

The outside toilet has a concrete slope and rail leading up to it, with two grab rails for support inside. Whilst it is not the biggest toilet, there is still enough room to manoeuvre a wheelchair. The JungleBarn toilet/baby changing room is on the ground floor and has an alert alarm.

JungleBarn Play Area

The indoor children's play area is available to book when reserving your tickets online. In terms of activities, there are multiple giant slides, challenging soft play areas and a toddlers’ zone with a ball fountain.

Access is variable. Whilst the large slides do have steps, there are some activities available on the ground level. The JungleBarn also has a large disabled toilet/baby changing room.

Should you wish to hire the “party room” upstairs, there is access via a lift.

The Gift Shop

The gift shop is accessible via the main entrance and has level access throughout. The main doors are automatic and products are spaced out with large walkways. The gift shop is a brilliant open space positioned next to the reception booking desk.

The Otter Pool Café

The cafe is on the ground floor with a small slope from the outside. The counter and till are at a reasonable height, with plenty of tables and seating options available. The cafe offers vegetarian and vegan meals, and with notice can also cater for gluten-free, dairy-free and nut-allergy diets.
